The US Department of Justice announced on Friday that it has charged eight individuals with planning to carry out a large-scale attack during a mixed martial arts event held at the White House last June, with the aim of assassinating US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and several senior officials.

The department clarified that a federal grand jury issued an indictment against the defendants, who are between the ages of 19 and 32, after authorities successfully thwarted the plot and arrested all those involved before the attack could be carried out.

The indictment includes charges of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, conspiracy to commit murder on federal land, and targeting US government officials. The relevant authorities continue to conduct investigations and take legal actions against the defendants.
