A report by the Wall Street Journal revealed that the United States has begun redeploying fighter jets from Europe to the Middle East, concurrently with expanding its military operations against targets inside Iran, in a step that reflects Washington's readiness for the possibility of broader escalation in the confrontation between the two sides.

According to the newspaper, the US military has expanded the scope of its strikes to include more sensitive targets deep inside Iran, in parallel with strengthening its air presence in the region, while Iran has intensified its attacks across the Arabian Gulf, increasing the likelihood of the confrontation widening and turning into a broader war.

The report added that targeting strategic facilities and infrastructure inside Iran, including bridges and other targets within Iranian territory, aims to increase pressure on Tehran to push it to halt attacks on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, following the collapse of the agreement that was intended to ensure freedom of navigation in the strait.

The newspaper considered that the current round of fighting, which revolves around control of the Strait of Hormuz, portends a spiral of mutual escalation, as both Washington and Tehran cling to their positions and no signs of retreat appear, while Iran continued to expand the scope of its attacks.
