The U.S. administration has revealed the identities of two soldiers killed in a military operation last week as part of the war with Iran.

The Department of Defense announced in a statement Monday that First Lieutenant Tyler James Vihan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Private Isabella Gonzalez, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, were killed in Jordan, where they were supporting a U.S. mission against the Islamic State group. The circumstances of their deaths have not yet been clarified, according to the Associated Press.

The U.S. Central Command announced on Saturday that two soldiers were killed in Jordan while defending against Iranian attacks using ballistic missiles and drones, and the U.S. military reported that the total number of deaths in the war with Iran has reached 17.

On Sunday, the U.S. Central Command announced that an American soldier was killed in northern Iraq on Saturday as a result of a controlled explosion of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian drone. Another soldier sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical treatment.

The military stated that it would delay releasing further information until 24 hours had passed since notifying the families of the victims.

The United States has expanded the scope of its military operations within Iran to include infrastructure alongside military targets, having targeted bridges, railway stations, maritime observation towers, radar systems, and power lines in Hormozgan, Bandar Abbas, and Sistan and Baluchestan. This shift reflects a strategy aimed at isolating the Iranian coast and reducing the capabilities of the Revolutionary Guard to manage operations and monitor navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
