(CNN)-- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Saturday inaugurated the State's Strategic Command headquarters in the new administrative capital (the Octagon).
Sisi, who wore a military uniform during the inauguration ceremony, said the State's Strategic Command headquarters was built to be 'a monument to the great people of Egypt, embodying Egypt's role as a force for peace and stability and a state capable of confronting challenges and achieving aspirations through the unity of its loyal people and its brave armed forces.'
Sisi pointed out that the command headquarters aims to ensure 'integrated planning and coordination for all branches of the armed forces, enhance combat capabilities, and maintain constant readiness to face challenges effectively and efficiently using the latest advanced technological systems, in order to achieve the state's strategic objectives and contribute to securing its capabilities.'
Sisi affirmed that his country's borders are 'a red line', and that the state will not allow any infringement on its people's capabilities.
Sisi described the 'June Revolution as a cry of truth and a declaration that Egypt is ruled only by its sons,' referring to the protests that took place in Egypt in June 2013, which ended with the army announcing the departure of former President Mohamed Morsy from power.
The Egyptian president said he 'knows for certain the burdens borne by the Egyptian citizen,' adding: 'We are working with strength and determination to build the modern state, which requires sacrifices from everyone.'
Sisi congratulated the Egyptian people on the national team's victory and qualification for the round of 16 in the 2026 World Cup, saying: 'God has mended our hearts beautifully.'
Sisi first revealed the Strategic Command headquarters project in 2019, describing it at the time as 'the brain of the Egyptian state.'
He then said the headquarters would contain a huge system of data servers. The building consists of 8 main octagonal buildings connected to each other underground.
Egyptian promotional reports indicated that the headquarters is designed to 'ensure resistance to explosions and counter any potential air attack, and is equipped with defensive systems against the latest weapons, and satellites serving the headquarters for reconnaissance.'
