The UK Maritime Trade Operations announced on Sunday that a cargo ship was attacked by unknown armed individuals off the coast of Hodeidah province, which overlooks the Red Sea in western Yemen.
The authority said in a statement on the American platform X that it received a report of an incident 30 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah.
It explained that a cargo ship issued a distress alert indicating it was attacked by unknown gunmen, without mentioning the results of the attack.
It added that the relevant authorities are investigating the incident, and urged ships to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.
The authority did not disclose the identity or ownership of the vessel, and no party has claimed responsibility for the incident.
The Houthi group, which controls the city of Hodeidah and its ports, also issued no comment.
