The Argentine national team is set to face its Spanish counterpart in the 2026 World Cup final, scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, at New York-New Jersey Stadium, in a match that will be the 15th in the history of meetings between the two teams.

According to the Argentine network "TYC Sports," the head-to-head record between the two teams is completely balanced, having met in 14 previous matches, each winning 6 times, while two matches ended in draws.

At the World Cup level, the two teams have faced each other only once, when Argentina won 2-1 in the group stage of the 1966 World Cup in England, in the city of Birmingham on July 13, 1966.

The last meeting between them was a friendly match on March 27, 2018, at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, which ended with Spain winning 6-1 against Argentina, led by coach Jorge Sampaoli. That defeat raised many doubts about the team before its participation in the 2018 World Cup, from which it exited in the round of 16 after losing to France.

That match saw the participation of Giovani Lo Celso, Nicolás Otamendi, Lautaro Martínez, Leandro Paredes, and Nicolás Tagliafico, all of whom are in the current Argentine squad, while Lionel Messi was absent due to injury.

The Argentine network pointed out that there is a postponed match between the two teams in the 'Finalissima' tournament, after they qualified as champions of South America and Europe.

The match was scheduled for last March 27 in Qatar, but it was canceled due to the war in the Middle East, and no new date has been set yet.
