The Saudi mathematics team returned home crowned with a historic achievement, after participating in the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2026), hosted by Shanghai, China, achieving the best result in the Kingdom's history in the competition, winning 6 international medals: 3 silver and 3 bronze, amidst competition that brought together 660 male and female students from 117 countries.

As for the winners, the silver medals were won by: Youssef Ayman Bakheet from the Royal Commission Education in Yanbu, Abdul Salam Abdullah Al-Salami from the General Administration of Education in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah region, and Abdul Ilah Mohammed Al-Saqqaf from the General Administration of Education in Jeddah Governorate. The bronze medals were awarded to: Elias Shaker Al-Faraj and Abdullah Tariq Al-Amer from the General Administration of Education in the Eastern Region, and Fares Mohammed Al-Kanhal from the General Administration of Education in Riyadh region.

This achievement raised the Kingdom's tally in the International Mathematical Olympiad to 88 international awards since its participation began in 2004, including 15 silver medals, 51 bronze medals, and 22 certificates of appreciation, a clear indicator of the continuous development in the level of Saudi students in global scientific competitions.

This achievement is the result of an intensive preparation and qualification program undertaken by the team members throughout the year, under the supervision of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), in partnership with the Ministry of Education, within the Mawhiba International Olympiad Program, which provides an integrated system of scientific training and specialized camps inside and outside the Kingdom, enhancing the competitiveness of national talents and aligning with the goals of Vision 2030 in human capacity development.

It is noteworthy that the International Mathematical Olympiad is the oldest and most prominent global mathematics competition for secondary school students, with its first edition launched in 1959 in Romania with the participation of seven countries, before expanding to include about 120 countries from around the world today.
