The Spanish national team has been forced to sacrifice its own icon for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, due to Argentina.

Spain will face Argentina next Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, in the World Cup final.

Spanish newspaper Marca said that 'La Roja' will play the World Cup final in their primary red jersey, after having delivered very strong performances in their white alternate kit.

The Spanish team will be obliged to wear the red jersey, especially since Argentina's primary kit is white and sky blue.

According to the Spanish newspaper, the white alternate jersey has become an icon among Spain fans, especially after being worn during victories in three matches: against Uruguay in the group stage, Portugal in the round of 16, and France in the semifinals.

The newspaper explained that demand for the jersey, which costs 100 euros, has skyrocketed after those victories, to the point that the manufacturer announced it had run out of allocated stock.

According to Wallapop, searches for Spain's alternate jersey have increased by 195% during the current World Cup edition.

This huge demand for the alternate jersey was evident in the overwhelming predominance of white in Columbus Square during the fans' celebrations of the successive World Cup victories, in the center of the Spanish capital Madrid.

It is worth noting that Spain began wearing this jersey about 10 years ago, specifically on March 27, 2016, during a 3-0 friendly win over Serbia.
