Al-Shabab has opened its summer transfer window dealings by signing a former Al-Ittihad player.

Al-Shabab announced via its official account on 'X' that it has signed Awad Al-Nashri, the former Al-Ittihad midfielder, on a free transfer after his contract with the 'Tigers' ended.

The capital club explained that the Saudi player will join the team on a two-year contract running until 2028, with an option to extend for an additional season.

Awad Al-Nashri was the fourth player to leave Al-Ittihad during the current summer transfer window, following Colombian striker Ricardo Carballo, Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, and Saudi winger Abdulaziz Al-Bishi.

The 24-year-old left for free after his contract, which expired at the end of last season, was not renewed, ending his six-year stint with Al-Ittihad since his first promotion to the first team in 2020.

Al-Nashri becomes Al-Shabab's first official signing of the current summer transfer window under new German coach Thomas Letsch, who took over from Algerian Noureddine Ben Zekri.

Awad Al-Nashri aims to regain a starting role with Al-Shabab in order to return to the Saudi national team, with which he participated in the 2023 Arabian Gulf Cup.

It is worth noting that the Saudi midfielder made 80 appearances for Al-Ittihad's first team over the past six seasons, during which he failed to score or assist any goals.
