After Balogun Incident, Belgian Team Sparks New World Cup Crisis
The Belgian national team has sparked a new crisis with the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), just hours before facing Spain in the 2026 World Cup.
Spain will meet Belgium on Friday at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles in the second match of the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
Hours before the match, the British newspaper Daily Mail confirmed that the Belgian Football Association had filed a new complaint with its international counterpart regarding the pitch of their designated training ground.
The 'Red Devils' were scheduled to train at Loyola Marymount University's stadium in Los Angeles, but were surprised to find that the pitch did not meet the minimum required standards.
The newspaper explained that FIFA responded to the Belgian federation's request this time and moved their training to the LA Galaxy's stadium in Carson ahead of the match against Spain.
This comes just days after the crisis between the Belgian and international football associations, after FIFA decided to suspend the automatic suspension of American striker Folarin Balogun following the red card he received during the match against Bosnia in the round of 32.
Balogun played in Belgium's round of 16 match despite objections from the Belgian and European football associations, but he failed to save his team from a heavy 4-1 defeat afterward.
