Wednesday: Nominations Open for Presidency of Football Federation
The Election Committee of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation opens nominations for the presidency and membership of the federation on Wednesday until August 1, according to a schedule previously announced by the federation on its website last Thursday. Ahead of the elections, Badr Al-Ruzayza, former chairman of Al-Qadsiah Club, announced his candidacy for the position of chairman of the board of directors of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, as published on his personal account on platform 'X'. According to what 'Al-Riyadiya' reported on Friday, a number of names are expected to officially announce their candidacies in the coming days, including the list of Muayyad Al-Shahri, Hatem Khimi, and Dr. Yahya Rajih Al-Sharif. Dawood Al-Muqrin and Ahmed Al-Wadaei joined the race for the presidency after announcing their candidacies as posted on their social media accounts on platform 'X'. The Saudi Sports Arbitration Center will receive appeals and objections to the lists from August 9 to 13, and will adjudicate them from August 15 to 23, with results announced on August 24. The timeline set August 25 as the final date for candidate withdrawals, before the election committee announces the final lists on August 26. Election campaigns will begin the following day and continue until August 29, while the elections will be held during the extraordinary general assembly meeting on August 30, 2026. The Saudi Federation announced on Sunday the formation of the election committee, chaired by Ahmed Al-Qunai'an, as head of the appeals committee, and members Bandar Al-Humaidani, head of the disciplinary and ethics committee, Dr. Ahmed Banamah, member of the appeals committee, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Fadli, deputy head of the disciplinary and ethics committee, while Issa Al-Rees will serve as secretary of the committee, representing the legal department. The elections come following the resignation of Yasser Al-Mishal from the presidency of the Saudi Federation, which he announced on his account on platform 'X' after the Saudi national team's elimination from the 2026 World Cup.
