Al-Balawi Crowns Champions of Al-Mafareed Challenge
Mohammed Al-Balawi, Vice President of the Saudi Camel Racing Federation, crowned the winners of the Al-Mafareed race final at the Taif track on Sunday. The ceremony was attended by Abdullah Al-Zaidi, Director of the Ministry of Sports Office in Taif. The total prizes for the Al-Mafareed final amounted to 2.5 million riyals, distributed across 156 heats in three stages. The camel 'Surooh' won the General Bakar Cup, owned by Mani' bin Ali Al Shamsi from the UAE, while the camel 'Shaheen' won the General Qa'adan Cup, owned by Abdulaziz bin Hamad bin Halfan Al Murri from Saudi Arabia. The camel 'Al Dhabbi' won the Saudi Production Bakar General Cup, owned by Abdulaziz bin Hamad bin Halfan Al Murri, and the Saudi Production Qa'adan General Cup went to the camel 'Malbi,' owned by Mubarak bin Fahid bin Ramlan Al Murri. The final day featured 24 heats over a distance of 2 kilometers, including four cup heats, two of which were dedicated to Saudi Production, heats introduced by the Saudi Camel Racing Federation this season to support Saudi camel owners, with the backing of Obaid Al-Dosari. The first championship of the 2026-2027 racing season of the Saudi Federation began on June 13 with the first stage over two days at the camel track in Taif Governorate, featuring 66 heats over 1,500 meters for the Mafareed category — Bakar Qa'adan and Bakar General. The second stage was organized on the 27th of the same month over two days, also featuring 66 heats over 1,500 meters for the Mafareed category — Bakar Qa'adan and Bakar General. The first and second stages resulted in the qualification of 660 camels out of 3,398 that participated in the race.
