(CNN)-- France coach Didier Deschamps said he will leave his role as head of "Les Bleus" after the end of the 2026 World Cup, to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
France, under Deschamps, will play England in the third-place match at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday night.
In a press conference on Friday, an emotional Deschamps said: "I know the final curtain will fall (Sunday), and without wanting to make anyone cry, and no one will cry here, I will miss the French national team."
He added: "For 15 years I have had the honor of experiencing wonderful moments and more difficult ones, it is the greatest thing that has happened in my career, 25 years in a person's life leaves its mark, it leaves a deep imprint, and memories remain unforgettable, but what matters is what the future holds."
Regarding the match against "the Matador", he said: "I feel responsibility towards the next match, it is not a friendly, but this was not the match we would have preferred to play, but it is an imposed reality."
He continued: "It's a third-place match, and I have a duty, with the coaching staff and players, to do everything possible to achieve the desired goal, and although we and the opponent are not very enthusiastic about this match, it is there, it is the current objective, and it is what occupies my mind."
Deschamps (57) took charge of his country's national team in 2012, winning the 2018 World Cup and the 2020/2021 UEFA Nations League.
