AlUla Governorate is establishing itself as a distinguished destination for equestrian tourism in the Kingdom, combining horse riding with exploration of archaeological sites, unique rock formations, and green oases, offering an integrated tourism experience that reflects the authenticity of Arabian horsemanship and allows visitors an exceptional way to discover the area.

This type of specialized tourism is witnessing increasing demand, with organized horse riding trips ranging from a few hours to several days, making it a suitable experience for both beginners and experienced riders.

The Royal Commission for AlUla Governorate is working on developing an integrated infrastructure to support this sector, by creating dedicated horse riding trails that extend across multiple natural and historical sites, as well as walking and cycling paths, within a system aimed at enhancing quality of life and enriching the visitor experience through sustainable methods that align with AlUla's nature and cultural heritage.

The Commission has paid great attention to organizing equestrian tourism activities by issuing licenses for stables and experience providers, ensuring the provision of professional services according to precise regulatory standards that guarantee safety and quality of experience. This attention has also extended to developing a veterinary care system in cooperation with the relevant authorities, by providing a specialized horse hospital during championships and events, contributing to spreading veterinary awareness and supporting the sector's sustainability.

The 'Knights Village' is one of the main pillars of this sector, being built in stages, and offers training programs and various experiences, in addition to hosting events that solidify AlUla's status as a specialized destination for equestrian sports and tourism.

AlUla hosts a number of the most prominent equestrian championships in the Kingdom, organized by the Royal Commission in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and the Saudi Equestrian Federation; most notably: the Ministry of Sports Endurance Cup, the Knights Endurance Cup, the AlUla Desert Polo Championship, the AlUla International Tent Pegging Championship, and the Horseback Archery Championship. These championships attract hundreds of riders from within the Kingdom and abroad, taking advantage of AlUla's natural terrain that provides an ideal environment for various equestrian sports.

Equestrian tourism in AlUla is not limited to horse riding; it represents a comprehensive cultural and tourism experience that allows access to natural trails and heritage sites that are difficult to reach by traditional means of transport, as well as learning about the Arab heritage associated with horses, and exploring evidence of AlUla's historical connection with horses as documented by inscriptions and rock art in its archaeological sites.

This comes within the framework of the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 aimed at diversifying tourism products and increasing the sector's contribution to the national economy, as AlUla continues to offer unique experiences that invest in its natural and cultural assets, solidifying its presence as a leading destination for equestrian tourism on the global tourism map.
