The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra), an initiative of Saudi Aramco, launched the sixth edition of the Children's Book Fair from July 20 to 25, 2026. Syria was the guest of honor at the sixth edition. Mohsen Mahbash, Chargé d'Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, opened the Syrian pavilion, which includes more than 250 titles centered on children's literature. The Syrian Embassy stated in a statement that the participation as guest of honor comes in recognition of the status of Syrian children's literature and its pioneering contributions to the establishment and development of modern Arab children's literature, and to enriching Arab culture directed at children, who are the makers of the future. The Syrian pavilion highlights successful examples of cooperation between Syrian and Saudi publishing houses in producing children's books and stories, reflecting the level of cultural partnership between the two countries and contributing to enhancing intellectual and social rapprochement through children's literature as one of the most important tools for building awareness and instilling values. A number of Syrian authors participate in the dialogue sessions and accompanying cultural programs, alongside showcasing their publications, a large portion of which have been published through Saudi publishing houses and cultural institutions, reflecting the support and nurturing that Syrian creativity in children's literature has received, especially in recent years. For her part, Ghadeer Yamani, Acting Head of Ithra Library, confirmed that the fair is part of the reading cause adopted by the center and within its ongoing efforts to promote a reading culture among children and provide distinguished knowledge content that meets the needs of new generations. It also provides an interactive cultural environment that contributes to refining children's skills and developing their cognitive and creative abilities, pointing to the fair's role in building bridges between children and various cultures through specialized programs and broad Arab and international participation. With the participation of 52 local and international publishing houses specialized in children's literature, the fair is an integrated cultural platform dedicated to children aged four to 14, aiming to instill a love of reading and provide an interactive experience combining books and creative activities with more than 23 diverse events. The fair attracts participation from European, Arab, and Asian countries across its successive editions, with a focus on Arab identity and multilingualism, along with programs aimed at developing critical and creative thinking in children, book signing platforms, and direct meetings with prominent children's authors. The annual fair brings together a select group of publishers and authors from around the world and provides an opportunity to promote a reading culture from an early age through innovative programs. The fair includes a variety of accompanying programs with 23 events, including workshops, interactive storytelling sessions, intellectual meetings with a select group of children's literature specialists, dialogue sessions, and four book signing platforms for children and young adults. It is noted that over its previous editions, the fair has attracted participation from prominent countries, reflecting its international standing, as follows: Belgium participated in 2021, Sweden in 2022, France in 2023, Egypt in 2024, South Korea in 2025, and Syria participating this year 2026.
