English club Arsenal announced on Thursday the official signing of French goalkeeper Illan Meslier from Leeds United, as part of strengthening the squad ahead of the new season.

The London club did not disclose the financial details of the deal, which is expected to be finalized after completing the usual regulatory procedures.

Extensive Experience in English Stadiums

Meslier arrives at Arsenal after seven seasons with Leeds United, during which he played 215 matches in various competitions, keeping 70 clean sheets, and also featured in 107 Premier League matches.

The French goalkeeper began his career with Lorient, before moving to Leeds on loan in 2019, helping the team gain promotion to the Premier League, before the move became permanent.

The French goalkeeper expressed his happiness at completing his transfer to Arsenal, stating that he has taken a big step in his football career.

Meslier said in comments to the club's official website: "I am very happy, it is a special day for me because I have joined the league champions. For me, Arsenal is the biggest club in England."

He added: "I feel very proud to wear this shirt, and I look forward to showing everything I have on the pitch, and contributing to winning more titles, because Arsenal is a club accustomed to competing for trophies."

Jersey Number 30

Meslier will wear the number 30 jersey with Arsenal, and will join the team's training during the pre-season period, in a move aimed at strengthening the technical staff's options in the goalkeeper position before the start of official competitions.
