Norway striker Erling Haaland confirmed that the 2-1 victory over Brazil in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup on Sunday was something he 'never dreamed of.'

Haaland scored both goals for his country, leading them to the quarterfinals for the first time in their history, bringing his tally to seven goals in the tournament, equaling Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé in the race for the Golden Boot.

Haaland told the media after the match: 'I couldn't believe what happened because I never dreamed of this in my entire life. I dreamed of participating with Norway in the World Cup and leading them to advanced stages, but I never expected us to beat Brazil, and let's be honest. I thought some things were impossible, but it seems I was wrong.'

Haaland, 25, who increased his tally to 62 goals in 54 international appearances for Norway, added: 'It's unbelievable to achieve this victory. I feel like I'm living a dream. Of course, any football player wants to participate in the World Cup and perform well, but scoring seven goals with Norway in the World Cup is very special.'

Haaland concluded: 'What is happening is unbelievable, and I can't find the right words to describe what I feel or what I am achieving because it seems unreal. I need to pinch my arm to make sure this is real because it's a huge achievement.'

Norway maintained their remarkable record without any loss against Brazil, the five-time world champions, with three wins and two draws in five meetings between the two teams.

Norway will face England in Miami on Saturday to compete for a spot in the semifinals.

On the other hand, Brazil suffered their earliest World Cup exit since being eliminated by their traditional rivals Argentina in the Round of 16 in 1990.
