Officially: Miami Adds Antetokounmpo
Miami Heat officially announced the signing of Greek two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks in a blockbuster trade that opened the offseason on Monday. After two weeks of reports by local media, the official opening of free agency allowed the Heat to announce the acquisition of the 31-year-old Greek in exchange for several players and draft picks. The Bucks, champions in 2021 with Antetokounmpo whom they drafted in 2013, praised him as 'the greatest player in franchise history' and said their relationship 'transcends basketball' as he became 'the heart and soul of the Wisconsin city.' This 'massive' move, as the league likes to call it, kicked off a very busy offseason that saw many stars change teams, such as Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers, Kawhi Leonard from the LA Clippers to the Toronto Raptors, Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies to Portland, while the destination of veteran LeBron James, 41, who is leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, is still pending.
