Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football, confirmed the approval of an increase in the number of teams participating in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals, from 24 to 28 teams.

Motsepe's announcement came during a press conference held on Wednesday in Johannesburg, where he explained that the next edition of the tournament will feature four additional teams, a decision he described as reflecting the continuous development of African football and the ambition to grant greater opportunities to member nations.

Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are scheduled to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations from June 19 to July 17, in the first tri-hosting of the tournament in the East African region.
