Consultations continue within the corridors of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the final format of the African Nations League, scheduled to launch in 2029, amid the emergence of new proposals that could significantly transform the continental competition.

In this context, the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto'o, submitted a new proposal to the CAF Executive Committee, calling for a modification of the tournament's system before its official adoption, in order to raise the technical level and increase the competitiveness among African national teams.

According to the Moroccan website Sport7, Eto'o proposed abandoning the geographical division system that was present in the initial concepts of the tournament, replacing it with a system based on continental or international rankings of teams, similar to the UEFA Nations League, aiming to ensure stronger and more balanced matchups from the early stages of the competition.

According to the Cameroonian proposal, African teams will be divided into three tiers: the first tier includes the top 12 ranked teams, distributed into two groups competing for the title. The second tier includes teams ranked 13th to 36th, totaling 24 teams, while the remaining African teams participate in the third tier.

The proposal also includes a promotion and relegation system between tiers, where the last-placed teams in each tier are relegated to the lower tier, while the top two teams from the lower tier are promoted, a step aimed at enhancing competitiveness and motivating teams to continuously improve their results and rankings.
