The elections for the Board of Directors of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation enter their sixth cycle with a voting bloc of 49 delegates, representing the five-tier clubs, to elect the new board during the extraordinary general assembly meeting scheduled for August 30, 2026, after opening nominations from July 22 to August 1.
Legal consultant Saud Al-Rumman revealed to 'Okaz' that the general assembly consists of 18 delegates for Premier League clubs, one delegate per club, 10 delegates for First Division clubs, 10 for the Second Division, 8 for the Third Division, and 3 for the Fourth Division.
The First, Second, Third, and Fourth divisions represent the clubs with the highest positions in the last completed sports season preceding the general assembly meeting; thus the total number of voters reaches 49 delegates.
Al-Rumman explained that the board elections are conducted through a list system, comprising the president, one or two vice presidents, and board members, with a maximum of 12 members, provided it includes at least one woman. No list is accepted without the endorsement of at least three delegates from the general assembly members, and a delegate may not endorse more than one list, otherwise all his endorsements are canceled.
Each delegate has one vote, and voting is limited to those present, without allowing proxy or mail voting. Elections are held by secret ballot, and a list wins by acclamation if it is the only list.
A list needs two-thirds of valid votes to win in the first round; i.e., 33 votes when all 49 members are present. In the second and subsequent rounds, a majority exceeding 50% suffices, making 25 votes enough to win when all members are present.
If more than two lists participate, the list with the fewest votes is eliminated from the second round onward until two lists remain. If a tie persists after three rounds, a draw is conducted to determine the winning list, according to the bylaws and the 2026 election regulations.
