Spain ascended to the throne of world football, after being crowned champion of the 2026 World Cup for the second time in its history, thanks to a 1-0 victory over its Argentine counterpart in the final match hosted by New York-New Jersey Stadium on Sunday evening.

"La Roja" decided the match in extra time, after the regulation time ended in a goalless draw, in a match in which the Spanish team imposed its superiority for most of the game through ball possession and creating opportunities, while the Argentine team relied on defensive compactness and counterattacks.

Argentina's suffering increased in the final minutes of regulation time, after they finished the match with ten players following the expulsion of midfielder Enzo Fernández in the third minute of stoppage time, after receiving his second yellow card. The Spanish team took advantage of the numerical disadvantage of its opponent and continued its offensive pressure until Ferran Torres succeeded in cracking the Argentine defense, scoring the only goal of the match in the first minute of the second extra time half, giving his country a new world title after an outstanding collective performance.

With this victory, the Spanish team added a second star to its jersey, after having won its first title in the 2010 South Africa World Cup, becoming the fourth European team to win the World Cup on more than one occasion.

"La Roja" also equaled the tally of the French and Uruguayan teams, each of which has two world titles, as the Spanish team continues to cement its place among the major teams of the world, and confirms its return to the top of international football after years of team rebuilding and blood renewal.

In contrast, the Argentine team failed to retain the title it won in the previous edition, ending its journey at the final match, after colliding with a Spanish team that imposed its style and deserved the coronation decisively at the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
