Argentina, led by Lionel Scaloni, bets on experience, the champion's mentality, and the influence of its captain Lionel Messi, who remains the most prominent factor on and off the field.

The arrival of both teams to the final was not surprising, as they entered the tournament ranked first and second in the FIFA World Rankings, before confirming their status on the field. Both teams maintained undefeated records, although each took a different path to the final match, whether technically, economically, or in terms of fan support.

Data from the Football Benchmark foundation reveals a large gap in market value between the two teams, with Spain's squad valued at around €1.47 billion, compared to €818 million for Argentina, meaning Spain's value is about 80% higher than the title holders.

A large part of this difference is due to the young star Lamine Yamal, who is currently the highest market value player in the world, estimated at around €292.2 million. The Spanish team also has a low average age of 26.7 years, compared to 29.1 for Argentina, which is one of the most experienced teams in the tournament.

Spanish dominance also appears in the ideal lineup based on market value, which includes seven players from Spain, with a total value exceeding €1 billion, led by Lamine Yamal, along with Pedri (€139 million) and Pau Cubarsí (€110 million). In contrast, Enzo Fernández tops the list of Argentine players with a value of €104 million, followed by Julián Álvarez at €88 million.

Despite the economic gap, Argentina clearly excels in fan and media influence, as the total followers of the national team players on Instagram amounts to about 667 million followers, compared to only 140 million for Spain's players.

The majority of this advantage is due to Lionel Messi, whose follower count exceeds 512 million, keeping him the most influential figure in global football, even as he approaches the end of his international career.

Argentina's fan presence was also reflected in its official accounts during the tournament, as the official national team account gained about 2.4 million followers between June 11 and July 14, a growth rate of 16.2%, while the Spanish team added about half a million followers, a growth rate of 6.7%.

Argentina's superiority also continued at the level of the fastest-growing stars on social media, as the five fastest-growing players in the team added 11.8 million new followers during the tournament, more than double the growth of the top five Spanish players, whose total growth was 5.6 million followers.

Messi led the way by adding six million new followers, followed by Julián Álvarez, Emiliano Martínez, Leandro Paredes, and Lisandro Martínez, all of whom surpassed the one-million follower mark during the tournament.

On the physical level, fatigue rates may play a significant role in the final, given the great pressure imposed by consecutive matches.

Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez tops the list of most minutes played in the tournament among the finalists, having played 795 full minutes without missing a single minute in his team's campaign.

He is followed by Alexis Mac Allister with 730 minutes, while the list includes five Spanish players among the most minutes: Marc Cucurella, Unai Simón, Pau Cubarsí, in addition to Aymeric Laporte and Rodri, all of whom exceeded 700 minutes.

This physical pressure also worries European clubs, as the 2026-2027 season starts in less than a month, meaning many stars from both teams will return to their clubs without adequate preparation time.

But all these numbers will lose their value once the starting whistle blows. Spain enters the final with the highest market value squad, one of the strongest defenses in the tournament, along with exceptional talent represented by Lamine Yamal, who is considered the future of world football.

As for Argentina, they enter the match as world champions, boasting the strongest attack in the tournament, and relying on the experience of Lionel Messi, who continues to defy time and surpass all expectations.

Numbers may explain the contours of the match, but they will not decide its outcome. As always, the real decider remains on the field.
