A media report stated that Mark van Bommel, former Dutch national team player, is preparing to coach the Belgian national football team. The Belgian newspaper 'Nieuwsblad' reported on Wednesday that van Bommel (49) is expected to sign a contract with the Belgian national team running until the European Championship 'Euro 2028'.

Van Bommel, runner-up in the World Cup with the Netherlands in 2010, played for Fortuna Sittard, PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and AC Milan.

As a manager, van Bommel has coached PSV Eindhoven, Wolfsburg, and Royal Antwerp, with whom he won the domestic double in Belgium.

Van Bommel has not coached any team since 2024, and Rudi Garcia's team was allowed to leave, despite him leading the Belgian national team to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
