English clubs Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers announced on Monday the transfer of midfielder Joao Gomes from Wanderers to Villa.

British media reported that the Brazilian international joined Aston Villa, a Premier League club, for 34 million pounds ($45.79 million) plus an additional 4 million pounds in bonuses.

The 25-year-old played 41 matches in all competitions last season with Wolverhampton, which was relegated to the Championship after finishing last in the Premier League.

Gomes joined Wolverhampton from Brazilian club Flamengo in 2023 and played 130 matches for the team, scoring eight goals.

Aston Villa, the Europa League champions, signed Swiss attacking midfielder Johan Manzambi from German club Freiburg last Friday.

Aston Villa beat Freiburg 3-0 in Istanbul last May to win the Europa League.

Villa will start their Premier League season at Brighton on August 23.
