Spanish club Atletico Madrid announced on Saturday the signing of Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon, with a contract running until June 30, 2031.

The club said in a statement that the 27-year-old player has joined the first team after reaching an agreement with Sporting Lisbon for his transfer.

Hjulmand joined Sporting Lisbon in 2023, playing 141 matches for the club in various competitions, and contributed to their winning of the Portuguese league titles in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025, as well as the Portuguese Cup in 2024-2025.

The defensive midfielder is known for his physical strength, ability to intercept balls, good reading of the game, accurate passing, and building attacks from midfield.

The signing of Hjulmand is part of Atletico Madrid's moves to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window, preparing to compete strongly in all tournaments.
