Barcelona Springs a Surprise for Hamza Abdel Karim, Starring Busquets
In a move paving the way for the return of one of its legends to the bench, Barcelona has reopened the doors of its academy to Sergio Busquets, starting a new chapter in his career as a coach, this time from within the team that includes young Egyptian striker Hamza Abdel Karim.
Spanish newspaper Marca revealed that the former midfielder visited the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training complex in the past hours to begin a period of internship and training with the coaching staff of Barcelona Atlètic, as part of developing his coaching skills as a first step towards the world of coaching.
Although the matter is still under study and has not been officially finalized, the goal is clear: Busquets seeks to gain daily field experience through direct contact with the club's working methodology, and to closely follow planning, locker room management, and tactical development.
The midfield legend believes that the ideal environment to start his journey is the same environment where he grew up and spent most of his playing career, especially since he does not yet have the necessary coaching license to take over as head coach, and he looks forward to completing his training before officially embarking on the experience.
This step comes just seven months after Busquets announced his retirement from football last December, having ended his career with the MLS title with Inter Miami, concluding an exceptional journey in which he won every possible title with the Barcelona shirt and the Spanish national team.
Last Sunday, Busquets was in New Jersey to follow the World Cup final, which Spain won against Argentina with a goal by Ferran Torres in extra time, before returning directly to Barcelona to start his new project.
Busquets' return is expected to give a great technical and moral boost to the players of Barcelona Atlètic, especially the promising Egyptian striker Hamza Abdel Karim, who will have a rare opportunity to learn and interact daily with one of the best midfielders in football history, and benefit from his experience in positioning, reading the game, and tactical development.
