Belgium Reaches 2026 World Cup Quarterfinals
The Belgian national team reached the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating the United States 4-1 in a Round of 16 match on Wednesday.
Belgium dominated the proceedings and successfully converted their superiority into four goals, capitalizing on their attacking efficiency and opportunities, while the US team managed only a single goal, insufficient to alter the result or get back into the match.
Belgium opened the scoring early through Charles De Ketelaere in the 9th minute, before the US equalized via Malik Tillman in the 31st minute. However, Belgium did not wait long to regain the lead, as De Ketelaere scored his second personal goal and Belgium's second in the 33rd minute.
In the second half, Hans Vanaken extended the lead with a third goal in the 57th minute, before Romelu Lukaku completed Belgium's quartet with a goal in stoppage time at 90+3.
With this victory, Belgium continued their World Cup campaign, securing a spot in the quarterfinals, where they will face Spain, who advanced after defeating Portugal 1-0.
