Boos erupted from the stands of the New York-New Jersey stadium as US President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino walked onto the pitch for the World Cup trophy ceremony.

Infantino said Trump would present the trophy to the winner of the final.

Spain won the 2026 World Cup for the second time in its history, after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA, denying the Albiceleste the chance to retain the world title.

The only goal came in the 106th minute of the second extra-time period, when Ferran Torres capitalized on a well-organized attack to shake the Argentine net, giving 'La Roja' the winning goal and the world championship.

Regular time ended goalless, after Spain dominated the play, while Argentina struggled offensively, before their task became more complicated with midfielder Enzo Fernández being sent off in stoppage time of the second half, forcing them to play extra time with ten men.

Extra time saw great excitement, as the referee disallowed a goal for Spain scored by Nico Williams due to a foul, before Ferran Torres managed to break the Argentine defense's resistance and score the decisive goal that gave Spain its second world title, after its first in 2010.
