(CNN)-- US President Donald Trump, his wife Melania, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino attended the 2026 World Cup final, which took place at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

Spain had won the final match against Argentina by a goal to nil, securing its second title in history after the 2010 edition.

Trump presented the gold and silver medals to the players of both teams, and together with Infantino, he ascended the podium and awarded the World Cup title to the 'Matador' team.

At that time, the US President remained on the podium and did not leave, preferring to stay beside the players, before Infantino directed him to leave the podium. This behavior was well received.

Donald Trump had done a similar thing when he awarded the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup title to English club Chelsea, as he remained on the podium while the players lifted the trophy.
