Breaking: Reason for the stalled transfer of Egypt national team star in the 2026 World Cup to Al Riyadh club
Negotiations for the transfer of Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, the Al Ahly and Egypt national team player, to Al Riyadh club have stalled, despite the player reaching advanced stages of agreement on the terms of his contract with the team during the current summer transfer window.
A report published by the Egyptian website Yallakora on Sunday revealed that a split prevails within Al Ahly regarding Trezeguet's future, as the club's board of directors wants to keep the player, while the football management leans toward his departure as part of a policy to reduce the value of some players' contracts.

The report explained that Trezeguet had previously obtained the approval of the football management to negotiate with Al Riyadh, and had successfully finalized the agreement on the personal details of the contract, before Al Ahly recently informed the player to postpone negotiations with the Saudi club. It added that this decision angered Trezeguet, who rejected the idea of staying with the team under the current circumstances. He also held a meeting with a football management official during which he expressed his anger over the leakage of some details of his contract to the media, insisting on his departure.
The player is expected to hold a new meeting with board member Sayed Abdel Hafiz within the next 48 hours to finalize his position and determine his fate with Al Ahly.
Trezeguet had participated with the Egyptian national team in the 2026 World Cup and succeeded in scoring a goal in the match against New Zealand, continuing his presence with the Pharaohs in the global tournament.
