Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham, competitors in the English Premier League, announced on Tuesday that Brighton has signed Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham on a five-year contract. Vuskovic joined Brighton under a deal that includes an option for an additional year, in a transfer that British media reported is worth up to $66 million including performance-related bonuses. British media reported that Tottenham retained a clause entitling them to 20 percent of the player's future sale value, in addition to matching rights as part of the agreement, which could allow the London club to re-sign the defender in the future. The 19-year-old Vuskovic played on loan for German side Hamburg last season, making 30 appearances in all competitions. The defender has earned six international caps for Croatia, making his debut in last month's World Cup against England.
