Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), said on Wednesday that next year's Africa Cup of Nations finals face some challenges, but he predicted that the event, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, would be a 'huge success.'

Motsepe did not specify the nature of these challenges, but stadium construction in Kenya has raised concerns over the past few years.

Government officials had stated in May that construction of the new 60,000-seat Talanta Sports City stadium in Nairobi and renovation of the 48,000-seat Moi International Sports Complex were on schedule.

Speaking at a press conference in Johannesburg, Motsepe said: 'We must have confidence in our people despite the challenges, and sometimes failures happen, but we must get up and try again.'

He added: 'But the Africa Cup of Nations in East Africa will be a huge success. There are some challenges, but I am proud of the work being done by the presidents of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.'

The tournament will be held in 2027, then again in 2028, and from then on the continental championship will be held every four years instead of every two years as previously.

Motsepe said the bidding process for hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in 2028, 2032 and 2036 has been opened, and 'exciting bids' have been received to host the finals, although he did not provide further details.

The 2027 finals will take place from June 19 to July 17, but CAF has not yet announced which stadiums will host them.

Qualifying for the 24-team tournament begins in September and will conclude by March.
