Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), said on Wednesday that next year's Africa Cup of Nations finals face some challenges, but he expects the event, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, to be a success. Motsepe did not specify the nature of these challenges, but stadium construction in Kenya has raised concerns in recent years. Government officials said in May that construction of the new Talanta Sports City stadium in Nairobi with a capacity of 60,000 spectators and renovation of the Moi International Sports Complex with a capacity of 48,000 spectators are proceeding according to the set schedule. Motsepe said in a press conference held in Johannesburg: "We must trust our cadres despite the challenges. Failures may occur sometimes, but we must rise and try again. However, the Africa Cup of Nations in East Africa will be a huge success. There are some challenges, but I am proud of the work being done by the presidents of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda." The tournament will be played in 2027, then again in 2028, and from then on the continental tournament will be held every four years instead of every two years as before. Motsepe mentioned that the bidding process for hosting the Africa Cup of Nations for 2028, 2032 and 2036 has opened, and bids have been received to host the finals, although he did not provide further details. The 2027 finals are scheduled from June 19 to July 17, but CAF has not yet announced the stadiums that will host them. The qualifiers for the 24-team tournament will begin in September and will conclude by March.
