Thibaut Courtois, the goalkeeper of the Belgian national team, shattered the legend of Hugo Lloris, former France goalkeeper, in the World Cup, against the Spanish national team.

The Spanish national team will face its Belgian counterpart shortly at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.

The starting lineup of the Belgian national team included Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid goalkeeper, as he wrote history in the World Cup.

Courtois became the second-most capped goalkeeper in World Cup history with 21 matches, surpassing Lloris who played in 20 matches.

Only Manuel Neuer, Germany goalkeeper, outperforms the Belgian goalkeeper, having played in 23 matches, the last of which was during the defeat to Paraguay on penalties in the round of 32 of the current World Cup.

Courtois could catch up with Neuer's historic record as the most capped goalkeeper in World Cup history if he advances to the semi-finals, as he would then guarantee another match afterwards, either in the final or for third place.

It is noted that the 34-year-old's net has conceded 16 goals in the previous 20 matches he played in the World Cup, while he kept a clean sheet in 8 matches.
