De Jong out for several weeks for Barcelona due to injury
Barcelona announced on Thursday that Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong will be out for several weeks after suffering an injury to his right knee.
The Catalan club explained in an official statement that medical tests confirmed a tear in the internal lateral ligament of De Jong's right knee, adding that he will undergo a treatment program under the supervision of the medical staff, with continuous monitoring of his condition in the coming period.
For his part, De Jong revealed via his Instagram account that he sustained the injury while playing for the Netherlands national team in the 2026 World Cup, adding that the initial tests conducted by the national team's medical staff at the time indicated that the injury was minor and would not worsen if he continued playing.
The Barcelona player added that the tests he underwent upon returning to the club revealed that the injury was more serious than expected, while confirming that he will not require surgery at this stage.
De Jong played in all four of the Netherlands' matches in the 2026 World Cup before 'Oranje' were eliminated in the round of 16 by Morocco on penalties.
The Dutch midfielder had suffered another injury last season that kept him off the field for several weeks, due to an injury to the distal biceps muscle in his right leg.
