Deal Nears: Laporte Agrees to Join Barcelona
Aymeric Laporte, defender of Athletic Bilbao, has agreed to join Barcelona during the current summer transfer window to bolster the Catalan club's backline.
Laporte shone clearly with the Spanish national team in the 2026 World Cup and was among the reasons for La Roja winning their second world title.
This brilliance prompted the Catalan club to move to attract Laporte (32) to Barcelona's ranks.
Many Spanish media outlets reported on Tuesday that Barcelona would not need to negotiate with Athletic Bilbao, given that Laporte's contract contains a release clause of only €15 million.
Catalan channel Esport3 indicated that Laporte is indeed interested in moving to Barcelona for the new season.
It added that Laporte's associates revealed to Barcelona president Joan Laporta the player's approval to join Barça this summer.
