The International Football Federation (FIFA) has suspended the red card for American striker Folarin Balogun and given him the green light to play against Belgium on Monday in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

Balogun had scored a goal in the first half against Bosnia and Herzegovina in a 2-0 win in the Round of 32, before being sent off later for a challenge deemed dangerous.

Trump wrote on his platform 'Truth Social': 'Thank you FIFA for doing the right thing, and correcting a great injustice.'

FIFA said on Sunday that the suspension would be deferred for one year.

Balogun is a key player in the United States' campaign in the tournament, and his absence against Belgium would have been a blow to the team.

A FIFA statement said: 'In accordance with Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the execution of the match suspension is suspended for a probationary period of one year.'

It added: 'If Folarin Balogun commits another similar violation in terms of nature and severity during the probation period, the suspension shall be lifted and the penalty shall be enforced without prejudice to any additional penalty that may be imposed for the new violation.'
