Kimi Antonelli, the Mercedes driver and leader of the Formula 1 World Championship standings, set the fastest lap time in the final free practice for the Belgian Grand Prix on Saturday, while Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton suffered a crash in the final seconds of the practice session at Spa-Francorchamps. The 19-year-old Italian Antonelli recorded the best lap time of 1 minute 45.990 seconds, beating Lando Norris, the McLaren driver and last season's world champion, by 0.139 seconds. Dutchman Max Verstappen, the Red Bull driver, took third place in the standings, while George Russell, Antonelli's teammate and his closest title rival, placed fourth. Hamilton was the fifth fastest driver, but he left his team’s technicians in a race against time to repair the car after he veered onto the gravel at a corner and hit the tire wall, causing the rear wing and suspension to break and debris to scatter across the track as the car bounced in the air. Hamilton is third in the championship, 32 points behind Antonelli, who leads Russell by 25 points after nine rounds. Verstappen slowed down due to double yellow flags after the incident, and Carlos Sainz, the Williams driver, nearly collided with his car. Charles Leclerc, the Ferrari driver, finished sixth ahead of McLaren's Oscar Piastri, Audi duo Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, while Red Bull's Isack Hadjar completed the top ten.
