Phil Foden's dazzling story with English football club Manchester City continues, as he extended his contract with the club on Wednesday until 2030.

After renewing his contract with City, the academy graduate will surpass the 20-year mark at the club, having first joined at under-9 level.

Since then, Foden has worked his way up from a ball boy and devoted fan of the club to a promising talent, and then to a global superstar. He is now ready to write a new chapter in his storied career with the club, having become one of the most experienced players in new Italian head coach Enzo Maresca's squad.

The official Manchester City website highlighted Foden's journey with the team, which we also shed light on in the following lines.

20 trophies

No player has won more official titles with Manchester City than Foden. The 26-year-old is level with Portuguese Bernardo Silva and English John Stones on the list of most trophy-laden players in the club's history.

Since his debut in 2017, Foden has won 6 Premier League titles, 5 League Cup titles, 3 FA Cup titles, 3 Community Shield titles, as well as one each in the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

In the Premier League alone, only five players in history have lifted the title more times than him.

110 goals

Foden is one of only 20 players to have scored 100 or more goals for Manchester City in its 132-year history.

Although he is as much a playmaker as a goalscorer, he has been extremely decisive at various points in his career so far.

Foden's current tally makes him second in the current squad in terms of goals, behind only Norwegian striker Erling Haaland with 162 goals.

68 of Foden's goals have come in the Premier League, 20 in the Champions League, 12 in the FA Cup, along with 6 in the League Cup and 4 in the Club World Cup.

The 2023/24 season was by far the most prolific in Foden's career, as he found the net 27 times in all competitions. During that season, he won the Premier League Player of the Season, the PFA Players' Player of the Year, and the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year awards.

Foden's role also involves creating goals for others, and he has provided 68 assists in a Manchester City shirt so far.

369 appearances

With 369 appearances, Foden is rapidly climbing the list of most appearances for Manchester City.

The English star currently sits 25th on the list, but he will surpass names like Ederson, Frank Swift, and Fernandinho early in the new season if all goes well.

Since becoming a regular fixture in the team during the 2019/20 season, Foden has averaged around 48 appearances per season. If he maintains this rate in the new season, he will rise to 14th on the club's all-time appearance list by the end of the 2026/27 season.

First named on the bench at age 16

Until the start of the new season, Spanish manager Pep Guardiola remains the only coach under whom Foden has played at the first-team level.

Foden's name first emerged with Manchester City's first team when he was named on the bench for a Champions League match against Scottish side Celtic in December 2016, at just 16 years old.

That was in Guardiola's first season in England, and a clear sign of his belief that Foden would develop into a star.

Foden made his first-team debut the following November when Manchester City beat Dutch side Feyenoord 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium. The rest, as they say, is history.

Foden and Guardiola shared a special relationship, with the Catalan coach continuing to support the England international and give him opportunities season after season. But now, Foden will get used to life under new manager Enzo Maresca, whom he already knows well after the Italian played a prominent role on the coaching staff during the historic treble-winning season of 2022/23 (league, FA Cup, and Champions League).

3 hat-tricks

This is the number of hat-tricks Phil Foden has scored for Manchester City. The first came in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium in the 2022/23 season, when City won the historic encounter 6-3, and Foden shared the spotlight with Erling Haaland, who also scored a hat-trick.

The second and third hat-tricks came within just two months during the final stretch of the 2023/24 season, leading Manchester City towards another Premier League title. In February, he made the difference against Brentford, before adding another three goals against Aston Villa at the Etihad in April.
