A French girl died in an accident while participating in celebrations of her country's team victory over its Moroccan counterpart in the World Cup quarter-finals, according to media reports on Friday.

Radio Europe 1 reported that the 17-year-old girl climbed on top of a truck before falling off and being run over by the vehicle, as the radio cited emergency services.

The truck driver was arrested, and another young man who witnessed the incident was taken to the hospital after suffering from shock.

France had strengthened security measures across the country, especially in the capital Paris.

However, French media reported that conditions were mostly calm after the match, despite the possibility of disturbances due to the presence of more than two million people of Moroccan origin or holding Moroccan citizenship in France.
