Bernardo Silva, Portugal's star, broke his silence days after exiting the 2026 World Cup with a 1-0 loss to Spain in the round of 16.

Portuguese players faced widespread criticism after their poor performance in the tournament held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and their disappointing round-of-16 exit to Spain.

Bernardo Silva said on his Instagram account: "A disappointing World Cup and a huge disappointment for the tournament to end so quickly, faster than we imagined."

He concluded: "It was and always will be a great honor to represent our national team. Many thanks to the Portuguese people for their support and the hope they gave us."
