Frenchman Antoine Griezmann, 2018 World Cup champion and 2022 runner-up, confirmed that the hours leading up to the World Cup final are full of tension, noting that players do not get rid of this feeling until the referee blows the starting whistle.

Griezmann, an Orlando City player, said that he understands more than others what it means to play in a World Cup final, having won with France in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and then finished as runner-up in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, adding: 'There is a lot of tension.'

The French striker explained that the path to the starting whistle is like a journey full of fluctuating emotions, saying in remarks highlighted by the Spanish newspaper 'Marca': 'You eagerly await the match time, and many scenarios run through your mind. Then you arrive at the stadium and see flags of different countries, many cultures around you, and fans of your country wearing your shirt... There is a lot of happiness, a lot of passion, and a lot of pride too. But there is a lot of tension until the referee blows the starting whistle.'

Griezmann indicated that he would follow the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina with great interest, due to the presence of friends and former teammates in both teams, but he admitted that he preferred not to send any messages to them before the match, saying with a smile: 'I wish them all the best, but I am not sending them a message so as not to bring bad luck.'

The French star revealed the background of his brief conversation with Marcos Llorente after Spain's qualification at the expense of France, saying: 'He is very happy. And I think the entire country is very happy. They have to enjoy this moment because it is unique and may never happen again.'

Griezmann also explained the reasons that led him to start a new experience in the American league through Orlando City, saying: 'It was always my dream to end my career here. I wanted to come while I am in my best physical and mental condition. I met with the club officials and liked their philosophy. I also liked the city. I called my wife and told her this is the perfect time to move here and take this big step.'
