British Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton expressed pride in himself and his team after recalling last year's Hungarian Grand Prix events, when he described himself as 'useless' and suggested team officials sign another driver. The seven-time world champion, 41, admitted he was at his worst when he made those comments after finishing 12th in qualifying, while his Monaco teammate Charles Leclerc took pole and finished fourth in the race. Hamilton said: 'I'm proud of myself and every individual in the team, because I managed to get out of that hole I was in. One day, when a documentary is made about me, I'll tell you everything about the end of that weekend and what it led to. But to come out of there and arrive at this week, I'm so far from where I was last year.' The British driver continued: 'I'm grateful for the way we have developed as a team, and for the pieces of the puzzle that I have moved and are starting to come together. And now we are here with a fantastic car and package, and we can compete with them.' Hamilton sits second in the drivers' standings, 45 points behind Italian Kimi Antonelli, the 19-year-old Mercedes driver, after five podiums including his first win with Ferrari in Spain this season. Hamilton has a good chance to improve his position and claim his 107th victory, extending his record on one of his favorite circuits in next Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix main race, in his 21st consecutive appearance at the Hungaroring. Hamilton has won eight times on this slow, twisty, technical track, located 25 kilometers north of Budapest, and holds the record for pole positions with nine. He also holds the record for most laps led by a single driver at any circuit, with 487 laps. The Ferrari driver has scored points in all 10 races this year and enjoyed his Italian team's return to its usual level with greater reliability and increasing performance race by race, as they constantly chase Mercedes and Antonelli in the championship.
