Heroes' Welcome: Egyptian Fans Celebrate the 'Pharaohs'
Thousands of fans gathered at Cairo Stadium on Monday to celebrate the Egyptian national football team upon its return from the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, in the first public reception for the team after achieving its best-ever performance in the tournament.
The Egyptian team exited the tournament in the round of 16 after a 3-2 loss to Argentina, a match in which they led by two goals until the final ten minutes, but their performance earned widespread praise both locally and internationally.
The ceremony, held at Cairo Stadium, featured a parade of the players and coaching staff led by Hossam Hassan on an open-top bus amid cheering fans. Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush, and Hamza Abdel Karim were absent from the celebration.

The celebration included artistic performances and a screening of the team's highlights from the tournament on giant screens, with fans enthusiastically reacting to the goals and moments that defined the team's World Cup journey.
The Egyptian team had received a massive crowd reception upon its arrival at Alamein Airport before being welcomed by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who honored the delegation in recognition of the team's achievement in reaching the round of 16 for the first time in its World Cup history.
