(CNN)-- England manager Thomas Tuchel said he "feels no regret" regarding the tactical decisions he made during the match against Argentina at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Wednesday.

The "Three Lions," under Tuchel's leadership, suffered a 2-1 defeat to the "Tango" team in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup.

In comments reported by Euro Sport on Thursday night, Thomas Tuchel said: "At the moment, I feel no regret. The team gave everything, and we were very close to winning." He added: "I think we deserved to take the lead. We played one of our best matches, perhaps the best under these circumstances. The team was at its peak, but we couldn't finish the game. So, no regret."

He continued: "We feel disappointed. We were very close to winning, but we became too passive after scoring our goal, which led to wasting many opportunities. We couldn't regain control of the ball and conceded many crosses, chances, and shots."

The 52-year-old added: "We decided to switch to a five-man defense because the gaps were too wide. They dominated all the aerial balls and kept sending in crosses."

He explained: "We tried, but of course the responsibility lies with the coach. If things don't go well, it's easy to say we were wrong."

When asked why England did not try to score a second goal, Tuchel replied: "That doesn't help if you don't have the ball. Of course, we wanted to score the second goal, but I didn't feel that an attacking substitution would be effective. We stuck to our 4-4-2 formation, but we became passive, even more passive."
