Inter Miami CF announced Wednesday that it has officially signed Brazilian midfielder Casemiro on a free transfer following his stint at Manchester United, but the deal coincided with Major League Soccer opening an investigation into alleged irregularities related to the signing process.

Inter Miami confirmed that Casemiro signed a contract running through the end of the 2027 season, with an option to extend until June 2029, as the Brazilian star continues his career in MLS after years of achievements in Europe.

Investigation into negotiation rights

MLS announced it had launched a formal investigation to gather all information related to the transfer, noting that it would not disclose details of the agreement between Inter Miami and LA Galaxy regarding priority negotiation rights for Casemiro until the investigation concludes.

The league confirmed the two clubs had already reached a settlement on those rights, but its terms will remain confidential until the ongoing investigation is completed.

Cause of the dispute

MLS rules require any club to negotiate with the team holding priority negotiation rights for a player before completing a signing outside the normal transfer system.

LA Galaxy held the negotiation rights for Casemiro before the player ultimately moved to Inter Miami, which in turn confirmed it acquired those rights as part of the agreement with the Galaxy.

A career full of achievements

Casemiro arrives at Inter Miami after an exceptional career, during which he won five UEFA Champions League titles and three La Liga titles with Real Madrid, before moving to Manchester United in 2022, where he contributed to winning the EFL Cup and the FA Cup.

At the international level, the 34-year-old midfielder has played 91 matches for the Brazilian national team, won the 2019 Copa América, and participated in three World Cups, playing all of Brazil's matches in the 2026 edition before the Seleção were eliminated in the round of 16 by Norway.
