Inter Milan, the Italian league champions, announced on Wednesday that they have officially signed Italian goalkeeper Ivan Provedel from Lazio on a contract extending until June 2029, as part of strengthening their squad for the new season.

Provedel, 32, will be the second-choice goalkeeper for the Nerazzurri, behind Spanish goalkeeper Josep Martínez, who is set to become the team's starting goalkeeper following the end of Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer's stint with Inter after his contract expired last June.

Distinguished spell at Lazio

Provedel arrives at Inter after a successful stint with Lazio, which he joined in 2022. He played 163 matches for the team in various competitions, delivering impressive performances that made him one of the standout goalkeepers in Serie A.

The Italian goalkeeper also previously represented his country at the Italy Under-20 level, before continuing his career in Italian football.

Martínez as first-choice goalkeeper

Inter is expected to rely on Spanish goalkeeper Josep Martínez as the first-choice goalkeeper for the new season, after he played 21 matches since joining the team and earned the trust of the coaching staff.

Martínez has diverse experience, having previously played for Spanish side Las Palmas, then German side RB Leipzig, before moving to Genoa and then to Inter Milan. He now begins a new chapter as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Italian champions.
