Jesus Named Portugal Coach Until 2030 World Cup
The Portuguese Football Federation has finalized an agreement with coach Jorge Jesus to take over as head coach of the senior national team, making him the expected successor to Spaniard Roberto Martinez.
According to reliable Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, the Portuguese Federation has reached an agreement with the Portuguese coach to sign a four-year contract, keeping him in charge of the national team until the 2030 World Cup finals.
The agreement comes days after Portugal's elimination from the round of 16 in the 2026 World Cup following a 1-0 loss to Spain, a result that ended Martinez's tenure with the 'European Brazil' after he confirmed his departure upon the expiry of his contract.
Jesus Begins New Chapter
Jesus, 71, is expected to lead Portugal in a project extending until the 2030 World Cup, which will be hosted by Portugal in partnership with Spain and Morocco, in hopes of returning the team to the podium in major tournaments.
Jesus's appointment comes after a decorated coaching career, during which he won numerous titles with Benfica and Sporting Lisbon, and had successful stints in the Brazilian league with Flamengo, before leading Saudi club Al Nassr in his most recent role, where he won the Saudi Pro League title.
