Australian swimmer Kaylee McKeown has withdrawn from this year's Pan Pacific Championships and Commonwealth Games due to health issues, explaining that she has been suffering from fatigue, shortness of breath and loss of appetite for several months. The 24-year-old has an exceptional record in backstroke, having won a record 10 individual titles at the Olympics and World Aquatics Championships. She holds the Olympic title in the 100m and 200m backstroke, and also holds the world record in the 50m backstroke in long course, and the 200m backstroke in both long and short course. McKeown said in a statement released by Swimming Australia on Friday: 'I am very disappointed to have to withdraw for medical reasons. What I thought a few months ago was just the flu turned out to be glandular fever.' She added: 'I was already ill when the trials started and I haven't improved. I'm afraid of pushing myself to the point of chronic fatigue.' The Australian swimmer confirmed she wants to focus on recovery and preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The Pan Pacific Championships will be held in Irvine, California from August 12 to 15, while Glasgow will host the Commonwealth Games from July 23 to August 2.
